I cut my cats off and put on two dynomax racing mufflers with custom pipes exiting out the side in front of the pass rear tires (dually). the truck ran great, more power and better mpg. Now that inspection time is coming (actually 3 months past due
) I had to put new cats on. I put on two universal cats and redid the pipes to fit them. After about 3 weeks with them on I am noticing a bad hesitation problem. When I stuff the pedal the thing coughs and doesn't accelerate nearly at all, then the cough clears after 10 seconds or so with one big cough (not a backfire) and the truck jumps like it used to. After doing this the truck is fine as long as I get into once in awhile, if I drive 15 miles on highway using constant speed around 2500 rpms then get off the highway and mash the pedal to merge it coughs again. Could this be because of too much exhaust back pressure due to the cats? Should Itake em off again after inspection? Any help would be great. This hesitation is kiling me, especially when I tow my bass boat.
