Radiator removal... help!!! |
Lead | |
|
Okay, I am trying to remove my radiator and I ran into a small problem... I have a 2000 2500 v10 4x4 with an automatic transmission. I am trying to remove my
radiator and I am having a heck of a time removing the transmission coolant lines from the radiator. Does anyone have any suggestions? they appear to be quick
disconnects. I tried a special tool that I bought from autozone for an old Ford Bronco I used to own. The tool was intended for the Fuel filter but it had
different sizes and I was hoping that it would work... Well it hasn't so far!

I ended up cutting mine for that same reason and used crush fittings with pipe nipples on them.

They sell a tool that is suppose to work. weel the only way I could get it to work was to cut off the fitting and then the tool would work.

I tried some of those tools. They didn't work. I ended up using a short piece of 3/8" teflon tubing. It took me what seemed like hours to get both of
the quick disconnect fittings to disconnect. I still have the tubing if you want some measurements.

Here's a picture of the piece of tubing I used.
It is thin wall 5/8" teflon tubing. I cut a slit in it so I could get it over the metal transmission oil cooler lines. It is between 7/16" and 1/2" wide. I remember using an open end wrench to push on it. Let me know if this helps. 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab 4x4 Long Bed V10 Automatic Overdrive and 3.54:1 axle ratio |

I actually ended up cutting a piece of Teflon and made my own "tool". I think the tool that I bought from autozone wasn't long enough. Well,
anyway I have a new radiator in now and it works like a champ!!! Thanks for the replies. If you cut some Teflon, or plastic that is long enough it will work.
The top hose came off quite easily and the bottom took a little more time. But it worked! Thanks again for all of the help! Jackie
