Both completely stock the V-10 kicks butt. Cummins with very little mod wins easily. The newer Cummins will beat V-10 right off show room floor. I have a couple of short videos of my V10 and my brothers cummins pulling at state fair if you are interested in seeing them.

Just raced a 03 ctd with exhaust up a long hill with my 99 V10.
It was like he was driving a go-kart. I dont think a ctd will win any races up hill against the 10. Im talking unloaded here. I love smoking trucks in the passing lane...... 99' 2500 Quadcab 4x4 V10 Sport 6" Lift 35's FIPK

2003 ctd= 305HP and 550 ft lb torque
1999 v-10= 305HP and 440 ft lb torque Don't take a rocket scientist to figure who should win this one if both are stock. The 1999 cummins was 235HP and 450 ft lbs torque, that is why the V-10 would beat them. |

If you are still interested in those videos let me know.
I found this link real quick, I'm sure there are better sources for the specs on these engines.. dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Fac...specs.html |

my 2001 2500 ex cab against my friends 1999 2500 ex cab cummis diesel. my truck is stock, straight pipe if anything, and his diesel has injectors and a EDGE chip as long as his stock turbo. when we raced, off the line i beat him and had the whole shot, though he did catch up quite fast half way down the track. im soon to be shooting nitrous though, so will see then

There is no way a V-10 would win a race against the Cummins. I owned an old 12v and have a 04.5 CTD. The CTD feels like its doesnt even know the truck is
there. It just moves with out effort. The 02 V-10 I just picked up seems like it takes work and fuel to move. They both have 4.10's but CTD has bigger
tires So ratio is 3.90. The v-10 falls on its face when you floor it on the highway at 75mph compared to the CTD. The CTD will bury the speedo at the 120
with out an issue, I floored the v-10 the other night and it just didnt seem like it wanted to go.

I have to agree with Bigdave. Not only do I own a 1998 V10 2500 4X4 auto, I also have an ugly 1990 CTD 4X4 manual. The CTD has a free flow exhaust, a smaller
turbine housing, and a very small turn up of the pump, AND 208,000 miles, while my V10 has a free flow intake and dual exhaust and 130,000 miles. The V10 is
the pig of the two being not only slower, but a complete fuel hog. I get around 10 MPG with the V10 no matter what I do, and about 23 with the CTD. The CTD
pulls hard, like a freight train almost straight off idle! The V10 is more of a delayed rush to speed. Neither is a slouch though, in the torque department...
If I went all out with a 100% turn up of the pump 0n the CTD, I could SPRINT away from a lot of 4X4's with a thick black cloud in my wake!

Bigdave12768 wrote: Try that 75 mph punch with a SRT10 ram, after all it's also a V10. Remember they stopped production of the VERY mild Magnum V10 in 03, up to that point all things bein equal (cab/chassis config, trans, gears etc) the V10 will hold it's own. You can't compare a 04.5 CTD to a older magnum V10, when there was no Mag V10 built that year. So compare a stock CTD to a stock SRT10 ram that year and that CTD will have it's peter kicked in the dirt bigtime. Dodge left 100 hp easily out of the mag v10's when they built them, they are severely detuned and mild, but STILL kick ass for what they are. |
